Estonian Embassy organises Nordic walking in Istanbul

On Sunday, 6 May, Nordic Walkers will invade Istanbul's Bosporus bridge, which connects Asia and Europe. The sports event, which has already become a tradition for the Estonian Embassy, will be organised together with the Turkish Ministry for European Union Affairs, Istanbul's City Council and the Governor of Istanbul.

Istanbul is the Sports Capital of Europe in 2012.

The Nordic Walking event aims to promote Estonia as an innovative, dynamic and open country and offer a chance to try a new sports activity, virtually unknown in Turkey today.

Participants of the event include the Foreign Minister of Estonia Mr Urmas Paet and Turkish Minister for EU Affairs Mr Egemen Bağış, alongside with diplomats, high-level guests and sports students. The history and correct technique of Nordic walking will be introduced by the creator of the sport, Marko Kantaneva. All participants can use MARKO brand walking poles (

After the walking session, the Estonian Foreign Minister and the Turkish EU Minister are due to hold a meeting, where the agenda will include bilateral ties between Estonia and Turkey, current EU affairs and Turkey's accession talks with the European Union.
